Lediya Dumessa, Ph.D.
Lediya joined the lab in 2015, having earned a B.A. in psychology from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and a M.A. in clinical psychology from Western Carolina University. Her thesis examined parenting variables that predicted children’s removal from home by child protective services. Lediya contributed to several projects examining risk and protective factors implicated in the intergenerational transmission of relationship abuse. Her main research interests focus on examining factors that promote resilience in children, and in disseminating research about adverse childhood experiences to promote trauma-informed practices with children and families. Lediya was featured in the Summer 2019 issue of American Journal of Community Psychology for her community research and training in trauma-informed responses. She completed her doctoral internship at Johns Hopkins University and earned her doctoral degree in 2020. Dr. Dumessa is a licensed psychologist in Maryland.
